Laboratory of Optical Microscopy

Analysis of the surface morphology of solid-state samples by optical microscopy and laser scanning microscopy. Zeiss Axioscope 5 and Zeiss LSM 900 microscopes are used for bright-field/dark-field, DIC, transmitted-light and reflected-light imaging, as well as for 3D reconstruction of surfaces and roughness profiles.

Service Description

The Laboratory performs analysis of the surface morphology of solid-state samples (including powders) by optical microscopy (OM) and laser scanning microscopy (LSM).

Equipment

Zeiss Axioscope 5 upright optical microscope.
Zeiss LSM 900 laser scanning system.

– surface morphology – bright-field and dark-field imaging, DIC.

– transmitted-light and reflected-light imaging.

– 3D surface reconstruction, roughness profiles.

Access to the Laboratory of Optical Microscopy

The Laboratory of Optical Microscopy is part of the research infrastructure of the National Centre of Excellence “Mechatronics and Clean Technologies” and is located on the Geo Milev campus. Requests for access and for joint research are therefore handled centrally — see Contact. In addition, a full overview of the Centre’s other laboratories is available on the Infrastructure and Laboratories page.

The optical microscopy equipment was established under project BG16RFPR002-1.014-0006, funded by the Programme “Research, Innovation and Digitalisation for Smart Transformation” 2021–2027, co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund.
