In the laboratory, systematic tests are carried out to develop catalysts for the purification of gases containing volatile organic compounds (VOCs), including methane, propane, butane and organic solvents. The experiments are carried out with different catalysts – bulk and supported on different supports such as aluminium oxide, ceramic materials, stainless steel, aluminium and porous materials. Potential partners and customers of the laboratory can be research collectives in the country and abroad with similar scientific interests, such as engineering companies for the creation of semi-industrial waste gas treatment plants and obtaining data for the subsequent design of industrial installations for specific sources.
ACTIVITIES
The laboratory is developing catalysts for the purification of gases containing volatile organic compounds, including methane, propane, butane and organic solvents;
- Development of different types of catalysts, such as massive, also applied to different media such as aluminium oxide, ceramic materials, stainless steel, aluminium and porous materials;
- Creating of active components of catalysts based on metal oxides, precious metals (palladium, platinum, gold), as well as combinations thereof;
- Development of catalytic monolithic elements (converters) for application in flue-gas cleaning from domestic stoves;
- Determination of the relationship between the physicochemical characteristics and the catalytic behaviour of the catalysts for the control of harmful emissions;
- Creating programmes for the mathematical modelling of reactions for the complete oxidation of organic substances in waste gases;
- Creation of simulation programmes for the removal of waste gases through heterogeneous reactor models.
SERVICES
- Design of different types of catalysts, such as massive and supported on different carriers such as aluminium oxide, ceramic materials, stainless steel, aluminium and porous materials;
- Synthesis of active components based on metal oxides, precious metals (palladium, platinum, gold), as well as combinations thereof, in the composition of catalysts;
- Determination of the kinetic parameters of heterogeneous-catalytic reactions under steady-state conditions allowing for different reaction mechanisms;
- Simulation of waste gas cleaning by heterogeneous reactor models, predicting concentration and temperature profiles of the gas phase as well as the active phase of the catalyst.
EQUIPMENT
Flame ionisation gas analyser for continuous control of total hydrocarbon content in the gas phase (Thermo-FID-TG TOC Analyser, SK Elektronik GmbH) connected to a vacuum system with a membrane pump for self-supply to the air-operated apparatus in continuous operation mode (SK Elektronik GmbH) and a hydrogen generator (LNI Swissgas SA, HG KUBE).
