SCOPE OF APPLICATION RELEVANT TO THE SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES OF OP AND ISIS

Undoubtedly, the highly qualified scientists of this consortium surpass the critical mass of scientists, necessary for an efficient research process; the partners are recognizable in the national and the European and world scientific area. The cooperation between leading scientists from these institutions in a Center aiming at a maximum coverage of the thematic area of ISIS “Mechatronics and clean technologies”, having a united research program, will contribute to strengthening and intensifying of the research activities, technological development and innovations, and will create an institution with leader position in the country and the region. In compliance with the program, modern and competitive scientific complexes at the highest level will be built and equipped with unique for the country and concentrated scientific apparatuses. These complexes will provide possibilities for conducting high-quality research in correspondence with the best world standards and practices.

  • THE REALIZATION OF THE PLANNED TASKS WILL LEAD TO:
  • Establishment of a National Center of Excellence in the Priority Area “Mechatronics and Clean Technologies”;
  • Implementation and practical application of innovative and internationally important scientific research, which ensures the construction of a recognizable Center;
  • Creating conditions for a transparent career of researchers and professional training of students, leading to the creation of highly qualified specialists for the needs of modern science and industry and attracting Bulgarian scientists from abroad;
  • Provision of innovative technological and mechatronic solutions in support of the Bulgarian industry through transfer of knowledge and innovations;
  • Establishment of multidisciplinary research teams and long-term cooperation with leading European partners which will ensure significant international visibility and scientific cohesion of the Center and its participation in pan-European infrastructure networks of mechatronics and clean technologies;
  • Turning innovation into a catalyst for social progress and economic growth through the dissemination of research results;
  • Achieving efficiency and long-term development of the center through the envisaged management .

ECONOMIC AND SOCIETY IMPACT:

The implementation of the measures provided for in the project activities aimed at achieving scientific excellence, innovative scientific and applied research, and accelerate the transfer of research to the business will have a positive impact on the improvement of the competitive power of the Bulgarian economy in important technology areas of the country, such as mechanics, electronics, control systems, electro-mobility, fuel cells and hydrogen society.

Effective use of the scientific infrastructure to solve significant problems for the industry,  enhanced capacity of research teams, efficient use of good practices by the EU and achieving good cooperation and collaborations along the entire value chain will positively affect the development of the various institutions – educational, scientific, manufacturing.

The set within the research program scientific and scientific and applied tasks provide innovative solutions in achieving the priority directions of the thematic area “Mechatronics and clean technology” to have an effect on greenhouse gas reduction, utilization of resources and efficient use of energy.

The activities provided for in the program for the training and further qualification will ensure the quality of the research and will ensure the continuity and stability of subject-matters. Creation of highly qualified professionals to meet the needs of modern science will help to improve the quality of engineering education, increasing the number of students in engineering majors and reversing the trend of increasing the age of employees, working in the “Mechatronics and clean technology”. The results of the implementation of the program for the training and further qualification of scientists in the long run will have a positive influence on the country’s significant socio-economic challenges such as low productivity of labour and the low share of high-tech production.

The activities planned for dissemination of results, and those related to the transfer of knowledge will facilitate the creation of effective contacts between science and business. This will contribute to increase the private investment in public R&D through the creation of joint teams to solve scientific and applied problems and implementation of innovative developments.

FIELDS OF IMPACT AND POTENTIAL END USERS OF THE RESULTS FROM THE ACTIVITIES

The ambition of the Center is to cover at the maximum possible extent the priority research direction M&CT in accordance with the description of ISIS. In this sense it is expected that the areas of impact will comprise various target groups of this top priority field. In particular the potential end users will be:

  • Representatives of the scientific community of the country and from abroad, occupied with the tasks of design and development of various topics and the respective related technologies, connected with mechatronics devices and with the protection of the environment.
  • Strategic users of the results from the view point of the industry will be the different producers of components or entire constructions of mechatronics systems and appliances, who will implement in an actual and competitive industry process the gained knowledge and understanding of the structure, the technology of the manufacturing process and the quality of the components produced by them, details, nodes and mechatronic systems, as well as waste-free and energy-saving technologies, friendly for the environment, companies, producing mechatronic devices.
  • Close contacts will be established with the newly formed Centers of Competence in the field of M&CT, which will establish one of the channels of the Center of Excellence (CoE) for connections with the business.
  • Potential user of the results from the activities of CoE will be the society as a whole, whereupon special attention will be paid to the various targeted groups for training by means of the educational program of the CoE including also the training of PhD students.
  • CОE will be ready to render various expert assistance to some state institutions, for example in the field of elaboration of scientific strategies, planning etc.
